SCHOOL RANT

Can I rant? Ok you have no choice.

I just can't stand Singapore education system sometimes. What's with the long school hours? What's with the "holidays"? What's with the piles of homework?

Sometimes i just wonder, why do they even have "holidays" anyway? They're like "Ok, the holidays are coming. Make sure you don't go out and play too often. You must work hard during the hols cos soon after your hols will be your exams." It's that typical sentence over and over again. If I'm not wrong, i think i've listened to that for 10years, going 11. So then, what's the point of holidays if we were to stay at home to study all day long? SRJC even has their eLearning day on National day wtf.

Holiday - A day free from work that one may spend at leisure, especially a day on which custom or the law dictates a halting of general business activity to commemorate or celebrate a particular event. (source: American Heritage Dictionary)

I think most of us agree that studying is not a leisure. Hence, holidays, with reference to Singapore, defeats its purpose.

Why do schools starts so early and ends so late anyway? Do you think it actually benefited us with that long school hours? From the results of the school, I would say not at all. Just how many of us JC1s in SRJC actually can get promoted based on our Mid Years? (for your info, our promotion criteria is a pathetic 35/80) According to the school, only 2/3 can get promoted. (or was it 1/3) But overall, the number is just too pathetic. Do the school seriously thinks that by forcing us to go through lectures and tutorials from 8am to 7pm is going to help us get good grades? Especially if we've crammed our notes into our head through the night in preparation for the oncoming tests, or rushing bloody PW deadlines till (for some of my friends) 4am in the morning? How can they even expect us to be awake?

Our Principal always said that "It's your choice to come to a JC. If you want to come here, you must adapt to its system." Well, i think the system is ridiculous for us to ACTUALLY LEARN. What is the purpose of coming to a school? It's not just plain getting a certificate just because you MEMORIZED everything before the major exams. We're supposed to learn. So why then are we rushing through all the lectures just to keep ahead of time? Ridiculous.

In my opinion, I feel that homework load should be reduced and curriculum time should be cut short. This is so that students can have time to rest and so that they can learn enthusiastically in class, and not become the zombies you see at every corner of the campus who/which will not pay attention during class.

Also, if there's a holiday, please make it an actual holiday. If not, i rather it not be announced as a holiday. Cheat my feelings.

DIE, EVIL SCHOOL! D<
